TMK proteins play a central role by catalyzing the phosphorylation of deoxythymidine monophosphate (dTMP), a key step in the synthesis of deoxythymidine triphosphate (dTTP). This process converts dTMP into deoxythymidine diphosphate (dTDP), an important intermediate in dTTP biosynthesis.
