Serine Racemase converts L-serine into D-serine, which acts as an agonist of the NMDA receptor, regulates the neuronal excitability, synaptic transmission, and is involved in neuroprotective mechanisms. Serine Racemase is mainly located in the cytoplasm of neurons, especially in the synaptic region. Serine Racemase dysfunction could lead to neurological diseases, such as ischemic stroke and schizophrenia[1].
