Acts upstream of or within several processes, including positive regulation of cell population proliferation; positive regulation of nitrogen compound metabolic process; and regulation of leukocyte activation. Located in cell surface and extracellular space. Is intrinsic component of external side of plasma membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including central nervous system; liver; retina; spleen; and yolk sac. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in colon carcinoma; glioblastoma; and high grade glioma. Orthologous to human FLT3LG (fms related receptor tyrosine kinase 3 ligand).
