Involved in gene silencing by RNA; positive regulation of nuclear-transcribed mRNA catabolic process, deadenylation-dependent decay; and positive regulation of nuclear-transcribed mRNA poly(A) tail shortening. Acts upstream of or within P-body assembly and positive regulation of RNA metabolic process. Located in P-body and nucleus. Part of CCR4-NOT complex. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; brain; early embryo; genitourinary system; and skeleton. Orthologous to human CNOT7 (CCR4-NOT transcription complex subunit 7).
